i have a tendency to try and take on too much at once so the following 9 goals are my starting point. there are a number of additional things i believe are key to good health but for now, i need to just tackle a few and i think this list is manageable for me. i may tweak it to babier steps if i need to scale back my expectations. the main thing i'm shooting for is forward progress here and sustainable lifestyle changes. i'll be on the road for work and family visits over the next 3 weeks so i know this won't be easy but i can't keep waiting for a window of time with nothing going on to really commit to doing the following 9 things. the perfect window of open time does not exist in my world right now and i need to learn to implement tools for healthy living no matter what is going on in my life at any given time.
goals for the next 8 weeks-
1. limit intake of refined sugar. don't "reward" yourself with sweets.
2. limit intake of refined grains.
3. eat a lot of fresh vegetables and lean protein.
4. drink at least 3 liters of water per day, more if i work out.
5. do crossfit and mobility workouts at least 3 times per week.
6. meditate for 5-10 minutes as soon as i wake up each morning.
7. do yoga (or stretch) for at least 30 minutes every morning and at least 15 minutes each evening before bed.
8. read an uplifting book or magazine for at least 15 minutes every day.
9. don't get discouraged when i fall short but push forward and try again. remember practice makes perfect and results don't come overnight but through consistency, even if it's not completely perfect adherence.
check in periodically as i'll try to post updates on my progress to a healthier me. i'd love to hear from you too on what you do to maintain a healthy lifestyle and what works for you, including recipes you love. send me an email or post a comment. i'm coming out of hermit mode and look forward to reconnecting more fully with my family and friends.
